Stripping Paint From Door Frames

This is not the worst job in the world, but very slow and tedious. Even with a 2000W heat gun, it took a full three hours to get the paint stripped to the extent as shown below.


The detail of the frames comes up very well.

I'm not sure I'll continue using the heat gun, as it will take literally months of solid work to strip all frames, doors, fireplaces, staircase components, shutterboxes etc. Perhaps paint stripper solvents could do a better job.

    Curious - did you have to have testing for lead in the paint and/or asbestos in any of the building materials? I haven't seen any mention of that at all. It's a really big thing here in the U.S. because all paint prior to about 1970 or so (and even some thereafter) contained lead which either has to be abated or encapsulated. You can't just scrape it off with a heat gun or use paint stripper because the scrapings are contaminated and need to be specially handled, bagged and disposed, etc.
